16 Almajiris From Kano Test Positive For COVID-19 – Kaduna Govt. The Kaduna State government has confirmed 16 new cases of coronavirus in the state. The Commissioner of Health in the state, Dr Amina Mohammed-Baloni, announced this on Thursday in a statement. She explained that the cases were Almajiris who returned to the state from Kano, saying their test results returned positive from the samples of 40 people who took the test. This comes hours after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control said 196 new cases were reported across the country. According to a tweet from the health agency, Kaduna confirmed 17 new infections and the total number of cases in Nigeria has risen to 1,728. Lagos Govt Confirms Death Of 25-Year-Old COVID-19 Patient. A 25-year-old man has died of coronavirus in Lagos State. The Lagos State Ministry of Health revealed this in a tweet on Thursday morning. It revealed that the patient was in a state of severe breathlessness at the time of admission. According to the ministry, this brings the total number of people who have died of COVID-19 in the state to 20. PHOTOS: EU Begins Distribution Of Food Items To 1,200 Households. The European Union has commenced the distribution of food items to vulnerable households in Nigeria. EU’s Head of Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ambassador Ketil Karlsen, flagged off the distribution on Thursday in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Karlsen explained that the intervention, targeted at 1,200 vulnerable households, was to support the Nigerian government in its bid to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the people. Speaking at Karimajiji community in Abuja, the EU ambassador stated that 25 per cent of the items would be targeted at people living with disabilities. According to him, the remaining 70 per cent part is for widows and other vulnerable persons. The lady, whose name was not disclosed, reunited with her family on Thursday after she went into isolation for 14 days, following her return to the country. More Than Three Million People Now Infected With COVID-19 Worldwide. More than three million cases of coronavirus have been officially registered across the world, with nearly 80 percent in Europe and the United States, according to a tally by AFP at 2050 GMT Monday using official figures. At least 3,003,344 infections have been detected, including 209,388 deaths, mostly in Europe where there are 1,393,779 cases and 126,233 deaths. The United States, the country where the pandemic is progressing the most rapidly, has 980,008 cases including 55,637 deaths. The number of detected cases is believed to represent only a fraction of the true number of infections because most countries carry out only limited testing.

COVID-19: Buhari Receives Briefing From Minister Of Health, DG NCDC. President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday got updates on the latest health developments in the country. The President was briefed by the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, and Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu.
